Israel, north, war. [22 Jul 2006|09:35am]

barmaleika

A new community was launched yesterday: community of English versions of the stories told by Russian speaking Haifa residents about what is actually going on there.  These are real people who are surviving there, in the north of Israel.

And we are translating their stories, as rapidly as we can and - specially for you. :))

Enjoy.

As you guys should know, Israel is undergoing some serious hezbollah attacks and is taking war action in Lebanon. Tourism markets and other economy markets go down during war time. People don't invest as much in Israeli companies. You can help. I encourage all of you to help Israel's economy by purchasing bonds or suggesting the ideas to other people you know at your temple or wherever. A bond is money you give to Israel to keep for a while. Once the bond matures, there is more money in it for you. This is an effective way of helping the economy. Bonds make good gifts as well. Go to www.israelbonds.com/local.html and find your nearest local office to purchase Israel bonds.

Today is Yom HaShoa, a day commemorating the victims of the Holocaust. Take a few minutes from your day, and think about how far the Jews have come since the liberation of the camps on May 8, 1945. The Holocaust was not that long ago… barely more than 60 years. The Jews have experienced anti-Semitism throughout the centuries- history cannot deny it.

Never forget is not a statement- it is an action. So never forget. Educate yourself. Educate your friends and the people around you. Make a Jewish newspaper (JPost.com, Haaretz.com) your home-page to keep up with news in Israel. Expulsion. Pogroms. Burning and looting of synagogues. The Holocaust. All acts of hate the Jews have behind them.

Now that you’ve read this, your minute or two is probably up; don’t let that stop you. Let’s be the generation that looks towards the future, and doesn’t allow the world to repeat history.

--*Another p’gua (terrorist attack) in Israel. 30 murdered, over 150 wounded. An attack on the eve of a day of remembrance- now, who can forget?

According to JPost.com:
“Jews were a moral threat to Nazis”
"We will...lop off any hand which rises to harm the Jewish State," says Katsav.
“Israel cannot continue to exist”
Iranian president renews call for Jews to "go back to their countries."

question for anybody who has done machon: what is the structure of each day? is it all planned out, or is there lots of free time? also, how often did you move from place to place in israel? how were the bus rides? how were the plane rides? finally, did you find that people were cliquey and stuck to their camp friends or did you make lots of new friends?

hopefully someone will answer and if you do thanks a lot!

merchav convention was so fun and intellectually stimulating all at the same time. for the first time in a long time, i wanted to do everything that was on the schedule-that-I-made when it was scheduled. i think that is for three of three reasons:

1. For the peulot I didn't lead, I didn't read them ahead of time even tho I had maz-eccentric access to them, so I had no idea how they were going to run, thus making it an exciting process for my brain. Also, the guest speakers were great.
2. Merchav Maz is a great insurance plan for our merchav (Merchav Tabor) and should be for the nation. I am excited for the future, even tho i won't be thurr.
3. I love everyone at convention.

[enter kleenex box]

We had the Year Course discussion, where we discussed with Lisa and Jeremy their experiences on YC and we asked them questions. It made us all want to go to Israel yesterday so we could be there today, instead of coming home.

Yuri Lane, our SNF entertainer was awesome [http://www.yurilane.com]. you guys should all buy his cd when it comes out; it's amazing shiz.

All midwesties in favor of going to BamBam's over session break say 'I'.

I know this is the end of my yj career as a member, and I feel that i got the absolute most out of it. I learned a lot about myself and learned a lot about other individuals, and about how people work together as a whole. I found the best friends that I have ever had, and this is a testament to them.

On a different note, apparently my mom is helping sell these big pimpin' Friends of the IDF duffle bags and blankets for a FIDF fundraiser. They are so pimpin. Immo buy both of them.

AWESOME Or Hadaroam O/T Convention ya'll [03 Apr 2005|06:18pm]

thatliljewgirl
Hey guys! This weekend's O/T Convention down in Homestead was great! I had tons of fun being a Madricha and meeting all the lovely Madrichim from the other clubs in our region. On the van ride back (the very LONG ride back), the kids expressed how much fun they had at convention and one of my kids said "I don't want to go home, I want to go back to the camp." So ya'll knowing Randy G. said "You can go back, but no one will be there." Yeah...so my kids are already looking forward to convention next year!

*sidenote* I hope to see everyone at Bogrim Convention (if I can go...still have to find out).

As I know since i went to Camp Young Judaea in Wimberly, TX, there are a lot of attractive people. Therefore, you should all join the "Jew in you" group (http://www.livejournal.com/community/jew_in_you/)
